Meet the Real
Gore Paw

Gore Paw is a Skinny Pig (often called just “Skinny”) an almost hairless breed of guinea pig.

Skinny Pigs typically have hair on their muzzles, feet, and legs, but are hairless over the remainder of their bodies. Some of them have a thin covering of fuzzy hair on their backs as well.

A healthy Skinny Pig has skin that is mostly smooth with some wrinkling around the legs and neck, the body is full and has no appearance of spine or ribs.

In the case of Gore Paw however when he was rescued by Torz he was malnourished; his paws had not been clipped for a long time and sadly his ribs were showing.

He was given the now unusual name Gore Paw and within weeks he was nursed back to health with good food, water, and veterinary care.

As you can see in the pictures the first one was the day he was picked up and the second was taken in 2020 with him in excellent health.

This was back in November 2015 and he is now 5 years old and going strong, his favorite treats are broccoli, carrots and sweet corn and he lives in a large cage. He does however have hours every day of outside floor time where he wanders around investigating his surroundings and running back to his food and water to top himself up.

Skinny Pigs can come in a variety of skin colors and patterns, such as Dutch, Tortoiseshell, Himalayan, and many others.

Gore Paw is a Pink Eyed, Pink Skinny Pig, as you can see from the pictures his eyes are translucent pink.

“Skinny” is the term used for hairless guinea pigs either because it colloquially refers to the exposed skin of the animal, or else it describes the illusion of their visually thinner appearance.

The modern breed of Skinny pig originated with a cross between haired guinea pigs and a hairless lab strain and are fast becoming a firm favorite as a pet in the US and UK.
